He was forced to limp off immediately and replaced by Sebastiano Luperto at the Stadio San Paolo.

A statement on the Napoli official Twitter account confirmed the initial diagnosis is a suspected thigh strain to the right femoral bicep.

More tests are required to identify the extent of the damage, but it’s safe to say he will not play again until after the Christmas break.

The 2-1 home defeat was the debut for new coach Gennaro Gattuso, who replaced Carlo Ancelotti on Wednesday.
