Thiago Motta hails the ‘symbiosis’ between Bologna and their fans, as well as seeing his squad ‘play with a smile’ in the surprise 1-0 victory over Inter.

As a player, the Brazilian-Italian won the Treble with Inter in 2010, but as a coach he has just put the final nail in their Scudetto hopes for this season.

Riccardo Orsolini got the only goal of the game, a chest and half-volley into the roof of the net on Jerdy Schouten’s pass, although they had already hit the crossbar and seen an earlier goal disallowed for offside.

“There is this fantastic symbiosis between the team and the fans, it was great to see them all stay in their seats after the final whistle to continue singing with the lads,” Thiago Motta told Sky Sport Italia.

“We played very well, keeping the ball to feet, with the balance you need against a great side like Inter. We didn’t allow them to create many scoring opportunities at all, it was an excellent performance.

“We’re in a good period of form and must try to make the most of this situation, continuing to grow and improve. Schouten and Orsolini know they have responsibility to create, but also to defend and they did both very well today.”

The mood has also lifted at Bologna recently, helped by a run of positive results that have put them in contention for the European places.

“Seeing Musa Barrow smiling, Orsolini enjoying his football on the pitch, it makes us so proud.”

Orsolini is in remarkable form, finding the net six times in Serie A this season, and in the last five rounds he has contributed four goals and two assists.
