Speaking to Radio Rai, the 71-year-old has admitted that he is looking forward to a less controversial year as President of the Italian Football Federation, especially with regards to the topic of violence in football.

“I'd like to have the federation at the centre of our project,” Tavecchio has considered this week. “In 2015 I want to see less and less violence.

“I hope that 2015 is the right year to begin the reform of the championships. If you reduce the number of teams in Serie A and Serie B, the income from the TV rights per team will increase.”

Tavecchio also spoke about the Azzurri, who are currently being rebuilt under the supervision of new Coach Antonio Conte.

“The national team is everybody's treasure, it should be the reference point for all of our sportsmen.

“The clubs that send their players to the national team get benefits, and the Azzurri cannot be secondary to anyone.

“The clubs are being transformed into entities that produce profits or debts.

“There are clubs regularly signed up to the championship that go bankrupt a short while later. These are the cases in which the federation must intervene.

“I had contacts with [AIC President Damiano] Tommasi, we still haven't proposed the reform of the championships, we must first find the right solution within the various Leagues.”
