FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio is “pleased to host Albania in an historic match” this evening.

The Azzurri had never previously faced Albania, but the friendly kicks off at Marassi at 19.45 GMT.

“We are very pleased to host Albania in Italy for an historic match,” declared Tavecchio after lunch with Albanian Federation President Armand Duka.

“The collaboration between our Federations is set to intensify, seeing as we have also organised another two games between our youth teams in December and January.

“I want to compliment the representatives of the Albanian Federation for their excellent recent results on the international stage.”

Albania recently won a Euro 2016 qualifier in Portugal and on Friday held France to a 1-1 friendly draw in Rennes.

Their Coach is Italian Gianni De Biasi and Federation chief Duka confessed “in every draw for European qualifiers, our people always hope to be placed in the same group as the Azzurri, but unfortunately it hasn’t happened yet.

“We are happy to be able to contribute to the cause of raising funds for those affected by floods.”

The friendly was organised in Genoa after flooding devastated the city, leaving several dead and thousands homeless.
