Italian Federation president Carlo Tavecchio says Italy's next rivals 'are Germany, and they intimidate anyone, but so do we.'

The Azzurri have the toughest conceivable route to the final, having to beat Spain in the Last 16, the Mannschaft in the quarter-finals, and probably France in the semi-finals.

“We wanted to do something beautiful and surprise everyone, and I think we're succeeding,” Tavecchio told the Press after the Azzurri won 2-0 against the Spaniards. “We played a great match and we have a fantastic Coach. I said we were going to the Euros to win them, so now let's hope we can do something better than that.

“Now there's Germany. Like Spain, they intimidate anyone, but now I'm convinced they fear us too. We're going to Bordeaux to impose ourselves.

“We're a team of substance and others are learning that too, by looking at the facts. In any case I've known that for some time, after all I've been with them for two years.

“We qualified for Bordeaux before everyone else, and we won our groups. What more are we supposed to do? But every game for us is the next hurdle to be overcome, and all in all, that's something enjoyable.”
