Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has reflected that only the capital club had faith in Miroslav Klose's ability when he joined them this summer.

Since joining the Aquile on a free transfer in the summer, the Polish-born German international has so far netted 10 times for the club from 17 appearances in all competitions.

In an interview on Tuesday, Tare, who ended his playing career with Lazio before becoming their sporting director, revelled in Klose’s impact and spoke of the calculated gamble only he and Claudio Lotito could see.

“We have already nicknamed him ‘Emperor Klose’, he has a mentality that is absolutely about winning. [The nickname] is in appreciation for the way in which he finds motivation to train during the week and the self-sacrifice he has on the field.

“The President believed in me to follow through with this to the end. It was not easy because Klose is of a certain age and last year he had not played regularly for Bayern. Yes, I feel a bit proud because we were the only ones who believed in Miro’s potential.”
