“The only path towards confidence is to win. We have a lot of problems that I don’t want to use as an excuse or an alibi, but we talked with the team over the last two-three days, they criticised themselves too, and we need to get back on track.

“There’s still time to go this season and many points up for grabs, it is our duty to give our all to the very end,” the director told Sky Sport Italia.

“When you are missing 14 players through injury and bans, it’s impossible to give 100 per cent when playing every three days. We mustn’t see that as an alibi, but as extra motivation.

“It doesn’t matter if we’ve qualified for the Champions League or not, we have to look forward and that means trying to close up on Juve.”

Have Lazio learned that they must bolster their squad to provide more strength in depth for next season?

“Who could’ve expected a pandemic? Even the first couple of games after the restart, people continued to say Lazio had a big squad. When the time comes, we’ll sit down with the coach and President to evaluate the whole season,” replied Tare.

“As I said, we put in an awful performance against Lecce and absolutely should’ve won, so that’s not an excuse, but it does sort of explain why we had this blackout over the last two games.”
