Cesare Prandelli says that one of the reasons he has decided to stay on at Italy Coach was that the timing ‘didn’t feel right’ to open talks with clubs.

The 56-year-old was linked with a return to the domestic game this summer, at the conclusion of his current contract with the FIGC as Italy Coach, with Tottenham listed as one potential destination.

However, in since committing to a two-year agreement to stay on with the Azzurri – due to be signed shortly – the tactician has once more explained his reason for staying.

“I decided to stay for two reasons,” began Prandelli to the Corriere dello Sport.

“Firstly, a Coach who before going to a World Cup has confidence in the form of a contract fills me with pride.

“Then second, mentally I did not have the heart to talk to a club before the World Cup, it did not feel right.

“On the future role we have not talked about anything. In these coming days we will talke, but the maximum concentration is on the World Cup.”

Prandelli also considered his strikers in contention for Brazil and on Serie A’s deficiencies to Spain and England’s top leagues.
