“I am optimistic,” said director Tony Pignata. “He hasn’t signed anything yet, but the player is willing to join us. It's a work in progress.
“Liverpool are a great club, but Australia is a great country to live in,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
Del Piero turns 38 in November and is a free agent after his contract expired with Juventus.
