Mile Svilar has reportedly decided to join Jose Mourinho’s Roma on a free transfer, choosing them over interested clubs in England or Portugal.

The 22-year-old Serbian shot stopper is set to take on the role of Rui Patricio’s backup in the Giallorossi squad and he’s expected to undergo a round of medical tests at some point within the next 10 days, although this has not been confirmed.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Roma will not have to pay Benfica for Svilar, although there will be some add-ons linked to performances and a small percentage on a future resale.

Mourinho has been a fan of the Serbian goalkeeper for some time now and Benfica’s decision not to renew his contract has ultimately proved fatal, with the player ready to leave for the Italian capital. He is set to earn around €1.5m net per season in Rome.

Svilar has made 12 appearances for the Benfica B team this season, for a total of 1080 minutes. In that time, he’s conceded 14 goals and kept four clean sheets.
