Maurizio Zamparini says he can’t see why Palermo cannot aim to qualify for European competition next season.

The Rosanero are back in Serie A preparing for the new season, after a year spent in Serie B. Whilst League survival is seen as their primary objective, their outspoken President suggests otherwise.

“Survival? Why not Europe? Why if we did so in our first year in Serie A under Francesco Guidolin can we not do so now?” Zamparini has asked the Corriere dello Sport this week.

“Survival? Why not Europe? Why if we did so in our first year in Serie A under Francesco Guidolin can we not do so now?” Zamparini has asked the Corriere dello Sport this week.

“I consider this a strong team, we have swept up the Serie B championship, we have already set foot in Serie A.

“I am sure we will have a great season, partly because we have a great Coach.”

Palermo’s first season in Serie A under Zamparini – the 2004-05 campaign – saw the club finish sixth in the table and qualify for the UEFA Cup.
