Support has been pouring in for Napoli stars Paolo Cannavaro and Gianluca Grava, who were suspended for six months in the match-fixing scandal.

The two players have consistently denied they were approached by teammate Matteo Gianello to fix a game with Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”6″>Sampdoria in 2010, but were banned for failing to alert a potential fix to authorities.

“Have strength captain,” wrote Edinson Cavani on Twitter. “You are and always will be our captain.”

Former teammate Ezequiel Lavezzi also sent his message from Paris, where he is playing with PSG.

“A big hug to my ex-teammates Gianlu and Paolo. I am with you, I am close to you, do not give up! We’ll see each other on the pitch soon!”

Cannavaro’s agent Enrico Fedele spoke to Radio Marte this afternoon on how the sentence – which included a two-point penalty for Napoli – was greeted.

“There is indignation, as the sentence was made official today, but had been written for days. The rules have to be modified and Gianello is unreliable – we proved it as he kept changing his story.

“I hope and am convinced that the TNAS court will bring the truth to light. After all, it has already overturned other sentences in this scandal.

“The Federal Court will give Napoli back a point, but we hope the club can get away with a fine and the players are cleared.

“Cannavaro is moved by the affection of the people. He is clean and he knows it. He’ll return stronger than ever.”
