Luis Suarez has reportedly texted members of the England squad to indicate that he is on course to be fit for the World Cup.

The Liverpool forward underwent surgery on a meniscus injury at the end of last week, but has followed up the Association Uruguaya de Futbol’s confidence that he will be fit in time for Group D of the summer tournament, where he will come up against England, Italy and Costa Rica.

The Guardian report that the 27-year-old has now contacted club colleagues within the England training camp and indicated to them that he will be ready in time to face them on June 19.

Uruguay’s team doctor has commented that he cannot say ‘with absolute certainty’ that Suarez will be available for the team’s opening Group D match with Costa Rica on June 14, but has also offered hope on him making the fixtures with the Three Lions and then with Italy on June 24.

“Luis is very positive,” Alberto Pan has explained this week.

“I never heard a negative expression and he says it is better every day. Suarez is painless [and] is working on fitness.”
