Andrea Stramaccioni has insisted that Udinese was the right team for him, having been out of the game for a year.

The 38-year-old was sacked by Inter this time last year, and spent the entire 2013/14 campaign without a job.

But having been appointed as Francesco Guidolin’s successor at the Friuli earlier this week, the Coach has insisted that he turned down offers in order to get the best position possible.

“I’ve refused several offers that have come my way,” he told a Press conference this afternoon.

“And it seems that I’ve done well to wait. I was fascinated by the ideas of the [owners, the] Pozzo family.

“They have a clear strategy as to what they want from this club. I am honoured to be here and honoured that they thought I would be the right man for the job.

“Inter will always have a piece of my heart, but my present is Udinese.

“I think my predisposition to developing young players is part of the reason I was hired here.”
