Paolo Cannavaro is still no closer to signing a contract extension with his beloved hometown club Napoli.

"Contract talks are at a standstill," agent Gaetano Fedele told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli on Monday afternoon. "We hope we can resolve the situation soon.

"Everyone knows that Paolo wants to stay in his city otherwise there would have already been contact with other clubs."

Former Parma stopper Cannavaro, younger brother of World Cup winner Fabio, is only tied to the Azzurri until June 2011.

Talks have begun regarding an extension, but there is a difference of opinion regarding personal terms.

It's understood that Cannavaro is wanting a new three-year deal worth €1.2m a season after tax.

However, Napoli are refusing to offer him more than a three-year contract which maintains his current salary of €800,000 a campaign.
