The Coach slammed his team after the 0-0 draw with Napoli, declaring “there is simply a lack of quality” and lamenting “I don’t think that I can improve this performance with work in training”.

“All players who get to Serie A have quality,” Spalletti clarified after receiving the Albano Amarini award in Empoli.

“My concept of quality also includes personality and the desire to always run at 2000km/h.

“When you meet Napoli you’re forced to play at 2000km/h, when you meet Crotone you have to impose that on yourself. That must be our standard.

“Often, against weaker teams, we have the impression that we can choose, that we’re able to go slower, accepting a much lower level, a level which isn’t enough to win games we need to win.

“If we want to finish fourth we have to win at least six or seven games between now and the end of the season.

“Even then it might not be enough. We have to get used to playing with maximum stress.

“Milan Skriniar has these concepts inside him, and the personality and character to show them off.

“The time has come to take responsibility, sometimes you need to play to win the game. With Napoli we had a corner in injury time, but there were only four of our players in the box.

“It was the last chance…”

The Beneamata appeared to be challenging for the Scudetto earlier this season, but it’s now a duel between Juventus and Napoli, with the Bianconeri taking the lead after Inter held Maurizio Sarri’s side.

“The title is still to be assigned. Maybe at this point Napoli can’t express all of their potential.

“They’re strong though, they’re solid. Sarri has done a great job, his ideas have entered his team’s head.

“I also think that the fixtures aren’t all in favour of Juventus. The Neapolitans have to face Milan and then have a head-to-head clash.

“It’s a great chance to reopen the games.”
