The Nerazzurri have qualified for next season’s tournament, and the Tuscan spoke to Premium Sport after last night’s final, which saw Liverpool lose 3-1 to Real Madrid.

“It seems to me that Inter have important professionals where the transfer market is concerned and they’ve already moved well,” Spalletti said.

“Together we’ll make the changes that are essential for the most exclusive competition in the world. Mentality and team spirit are essential elements to play in the Champions League.

“To finish among the final four you need strong players who can find solutions on their own. If you don’t you risk getting there and getting a bad beating.

“[Liverpool’s Loris] Karius is a good goalkeeper but not being used to playing games of a certain level makes the difference in this beautiful competition.

“I’ve experienced it and it’s beautiful, Inter fans have experienced it and even won a few times. But you need players with knowledge of what you need in certain games, one who solves things by himself.

“To play you need togetherness, but to win you need champions, beasts like that. People who know how to read things in particular moments.

“The Champions League is beautiful, it's the Disneyland of football where the players relive their childhood dreams.”

Spalletti also discussed new signing Lautaro Martinez.

“He knows where the goal is, and he can also play with Mauro Icardi who waited for him at the airport. That says a lot about his respect for his teammates and his quality.”
