Roma general manager Mauro Baldissoni describes Luciano Spalletti as “a great Coach”.

Roma general manager Mauro Baldissoni describes Luciano Spalletti as “a great Coach”.

The tactician has returned the Olimpico bench, replacing Rudi Garcia after a disappointing run of results.

“A new coach means a new start and as such, obviously creates excitement, but also linked to the excitement is a responsibility to do better,” Baldissoni told Roma’s official website.

“Luciano is undoubtedly a great coach with an international reputation. He is a hard worker –  a football instructor with clear ideas of how he wants his team to play.

“Furthermore, he’s already proved to be able to succeed in Rome. He knows Rome well and was able to be successful in this environment.

“This is not to be downplayed when you have to step in mid-season with a short time to prepare. Our objectives haven’t changed and won’t change – we want Roma to compete at a top level in the League.”

Baldissoni also had some kind words for Garcia, who said this week that his Roma adventure “ended too soon".

“Rudi is a great professional and a great person. It's always a sad moment when a project that has been started can't be completed but that doesn't change the good experiences we lived together.

“We all wish Rudi the best of luck in his career.”
