Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora says he is ‘working’ to ensure at least ‘a few’ Serie A games are shown free-to-air.

Spadafora has finally given the green light to the season’s resumption, and the June 17 date for the Coppa Italia Final will mark 50 years since Italy beat Germany 4-3 in the ‘Game of the Century’ at the 1970 World Cup.

“Concern continues to exist and that’s what led us to make decisions with the right level of responsibility,” he told Rai 2.

“When we had so many people in intensive care, there was paradoxical pressure from the world of football.

“Now that [resuming] is possible, it’s right to do so and I’m happy to do it with the Coppa Italia Final on the anniversary of Italy-Germany on June 17.

“However, we’ll have to keep paying close attention because we’re not out of the woods yet.”

The politician also confirmed he had asked Sky and DAZN about allowing matches to be aired at no cost.

“We need to avoid gatherings in public places with the resumption of the campaign and I’ve asked broadcasters for their availability. I’ll continue to work, even it’s just for a few games.

“I won’t rule out regulatory intervention for health and public order, but first of all I’ll focus on dialogue.”
