Italy’s Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora said sport “must and want to be ready to start as soon as possible” after gathering “very usual information” during a meeting with CONI.

With sport currently suspended, the respective Federations and Associations are widely discussing how to proceed after the current emergency and Spadafora highlights that sport will be “one of the engines” to help “relaunch” Italy.

“I want to thank the President of CONI, CIP and all the members of the board for accepting my discussion and for creating this important opportunity to have a dialogue,” Spadafora said after the CONI meeting, according to Calciomercato.com.

“It was very useful to gather all the necessary elements from the representatives of the world of sport, to have in mind when we discuss the next measures.

“We must and we want to be ready to start as soon as possible. For its role and for its social and economical importance. Sport will be one of the engines that will allow us to relaunch the country after the health crisis.

“I received confirmation of the great collaboration shown by everyone in this difficult moment and I asked CONI to collect the requests, the suggestions and the proposals in the coming days.

“Soon, I will discuss with all the representatives of grassroots sports, as I did since the beginning of my mandate and this emergency.”
