“We have certainly changed something on a tactical level. This team can and must provide greater intensity,” said the Coach in his Press conference.
“Every individual can only emerge positively with help from the team. We need to improve in that area. Our system varies depending on the opponent. Against Slovan Liberec we chose to have a man free between attack and midfield. My players have improved, but there needs to be more intensity in the challenges.”
Cagliari are fresh from a shock 2-1 victory away to Inter and have a very strong home record.
“A factor that could well be decisive for us is the change of temperate from Liberec to Sardinia,” continued Sousa after a 3-1 Europa League victory in Slovakia.
“Cagliari also had a week to prepare, but that mustn’t be an alibi. We need the right mentality and to surpass our limits in every move. If we don’t have the same intensity of our opponents, we will struggle, and that is true against any team.
“The Sardinians changed their system and are finding consistent results. This side knows Serie A well, has quality and runs very few risks at the back.”
Sousa was asked if he felt the pressure of potentially getting the sack.
“Every game is a test for me. I won’t deny it, because it has always been the way for me. We Coaches depend on results and they are decisive for everything in football. This team must show hunger and desire for victory in every move.”
