Fiorentina boss Paulo Sousa admits he has changed his approach this season, in that he is now a “realist” and not a “dreamer”.

Fiorentina’s midweek draw at home to Crotone marked left the side with just one Serie A win in six games, and speaking ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bologna, Sousa warned La Viola they could have “no excuses”.

“It’s logical that being unable to win two straight games in the League affects you in the table,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“Certainly, we have to improve mentally and in energy management. Against Crotone, it was a strange game with all what happened, but I liked our attitude and you can’t compare it to the 1-1 draw with Verona last season.

“Our attitude was much better [this time around], it’s just that the result remained the same. And the referee!

“We’ve yet to have had all our players in their best shape for the same game, but it’s mainly the lack of results that has created a bit of doubt in our conviction and awareness because winning helps winning.

“Last season, we always scored at the first opportunity, controlling matches. This season it hasn’t happened, so we need to improve our finishing in front of goal.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. When I arrived, I promoted the dream much more.

“This season, I’m focusing mostly on the reality. I’m positive and I love to dream, but the reality has grown more than the dream. For this, we’re are more realistic than we were in my first few months.

“Lack of recovery time? We’re used to it. We can’t have any excuses. Bologna are a very compact team and organised, their best quality is the counterattack, so we have to be careful.

“We’ll be dealt some space, so it’s up to us to play quickly, trying to find parts of the pitch that are empty.

“We’ll have fewer opportunities than we did in the last three games, so we’ll have to be more effective.”
