“The biggest test of a team is the match situation. Games of this level give you an idea of who we are and what we want to achieve, the path we must go down,” said Coach Sousa in a Press conference.

“The idea is for continuous work to find the top level. In Florence the results are experienced in a passionate way by the fans and media, but it’s up to us to transform everything that is negative into a positive. The love from the city is that extra element that can push us forward.”

Inter have a 100 per cent record after five rounds, while Fiorentina sit in second place with 12 points.

“Inter are a balanced side with no gaps between the sections. They take the initiative and with top level individuals who can make the difference at crucial moments.

“As for Fiorentina, we have always been courageous and try to build good moves, even if our opponents at times don’t allow us to.

“Who will be under more pressure? Without a doubt Inter. However, I don’t think that will necessarily be an advantage for us. All games are important and we treat this one no differently.”

The Nerazzurri have been criticised for their negative style of play and series of 1-0 results, whereas Sousa’s Fiorentina have provided some sparkling football.

“We do have different ideas of football. We’ll see if we can surprise them. In any case, Inter are still a team who like us tries to take the initiative and have quality individuals who can be decisive.

“Inter have a midfield that does not only have intensity and quality, but also a strong physical presence and great maturity.

“It’s much easier to play when you control the ball than when you go for the counter-attack, as otherwise you’re under pressure all the time.”

Sousa also shrugged off questions about the choice of referee for this game.

“We must help officials and give them the calm to do a good job, so that games will improve. I maintain the Italian referees are of a very high quality and we must protect them, on and off the field.

“If we start out with doubts about the match, then it’s unlikely to turn out well.”
