The Viola consolidated third with today’s 3-2 victory away to Atalanta.

“It is important that Nikola Kalinic got back to scoring and it will certainly help him psychologically, as a striker lives for goals,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

“I am happy with this victory in a difficult arena against an organised side. The state of the pitch meant we couldn’t pass the ball around quickly, but we did well to adapt.

“I am pleased for Cristian Tello’s goal too. He will help us maintain the path we are on. We’ve already shown that our style of football can compete with the best teams and we are competitive for third. We won’t hold back.”

Fiorentina are also in the running for a place in the Europa League last 16, having drawn 1-1 at home with Tottenham.

“Spurs are one of the best teams in Europe in terms of tactics and physicality. We were able to cause them problems as the game wore on by controlling the play, but we didn’t finalise our chances.

“I believe we can go through and my lads are proving they want it too.”
