According to Sky Sport Italia transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio, Buffon is in regular and advanced talks for a stunning return to Juventus.

He’d accept the role of second choice goalkeeper to Wojciech Szczesny, as Mattia Perin is moving away to seek more regular playing time.

It’d also allow Buffon to make a smooth transition into the role of director or part of Maurizio Sarri’s coaching staff in 2020.

SuperGigi spent 17 years at Juventus, playing 656 matches in all competition.

He had been linked with a number of potential clubs this summer, including Parma, Brescia, Atalanta, FC Porto and even Leeds United.

In light of this news, looking back at Buffon’s latest tweet gives it a reading that makes a great deal of sense.

“Travel only has one rule don't come back the same as you left. Come back different.”
