Salvatore Sirigu assured “it will be a different Italy” against Spain after a late defeat to the Republic of Ireland.

The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper was given a rare start as Gigi Buffon has flu and Italy were already sure of top spot in Group E.

“It’s a shame about the result and that silly error at the end,” Sirigu told Rai Sport.

“We tried to play tonight, despite already having first place, but are bitter at the way the defeat arrived.

“We lacked precision this evening, but also did some good things.”

Buffon will return to goal for Monday’s Round of 16 clash with Spain in Paris.

“It will be a different Italy and we will also play with considerably more on a psychological level,” added Sirigu.
