Jozo Simunovic insists he didn’t fail his Torino medical – “they changed the deal with Celtic”.

The Croatian centre-back was expected to sign for the Granata yesterday, and was in Turin for medical tests, but the transfer never went ahead.

It was reported in Italy that he had failed his medical, having ruptured knee ligaments in January, but the defender denies that.

“A lot has been said in the last few days,” Simunovic posted on his Twitter account.

“I prefer to talk only on the field, but this time I want to say something to the Celtic fans who have always supported me and as a player it mean[s] a lot to me.

“Behind me is [a] ‘turbulent’ period, starting from [my injury] until [the] transfer to Turin. I just want to say that it is not true that I have not passed [the] medical in Turin.

“Everything was perfect, I’m completely healthy and fit! Transfer was not realised because Torino at the last minute wanted to change the deal with Celtic.

“My head is in [sic] Celtic and I’m 100 per cent focused on the field and the challenges ahead.”
