“Two squads are coming into this who are doing very well,” Simoni told FCInterNews.

“Probably Napoli, playing at home, are favourites, but it’s hard to say too much in that regard. Inter haven’t won at San Paolo for a long time, going back to when I was on the bench, and today there’s a difference between the style of the teams.

“To be honest, I like the Azzurri better, they are more spectacular and fun. These are two teams who are in my heart though, I want them both to win.

“Of course, that’s not possible. As I said, I think Napoli start as favourites, but that absolutely doesn’t mean that Inter don’t have what it takes to win this game.

“Inter will find a difficult atmosphere, but the team has the characteristics to do well.

“They aren’t beautiful to watch, but they’re effective, solid and cynical. They defend very well and can score at any time.”

It has been suggested that Mauro Icardi could be dropped for this game, but Simoni insists he would always play the Argentine.

“Icardi can’t be questioned, I’d never do without him. I’d always play him. Of course he was wrong to complain after the Bologna game, but the Argentine is a guarantee.

“He always scores and he’s essential for this team. It’s a disadvantage for him that the midfield is not ideal for feeding the strikers, but I’d play him even when set up to play on the break.

“Inter have several players in attack, but the first choice for me is Icardi, without a doubt.”
