Former Inter Coach Luigi Simoni responds to Piero Ceccarini – “when I’ve made mistakes, I’ve had the courage to reflect and accept I was wrong”.

Yesterday the former referee insisted he was right not to award the Nerazzurri a penalty against Juventus in 1998, a controversial decision which even caused a fight in the Italian parliament.

“Poor guy…” the former Coach responded on Radio CRC.

“It’s not even clever, because in life as well as football I’ve made mistakes and got things wrong, but when I’ve made mistakes, I’ve had the courage to reflect and accept I was wrong.

“You have to be honest, football is a game, even though it’s one that is difficult to evaluate sometimes.

“In Italy when we talk about wrongs, we talk about that penalty denied to Inter. I didn’t get a lot of penalties because of a referee who was wrong, but I never said anything.

“There was a story behind it, people remember it and still talk about it on television today. It was so obvious that it’s still discussed 20 years later. Ceccarini had a horror show.

“I lost my mind, but I forgave him because everyone makes mistakes in life. That time he was wrong.”
