Instead, Mauro Icardi was as lethal as always, pouncing from a Joao Cancelo free kick to beat Marco Sportiello at the second attempt.
Handanovic came to the rescue with remarkable saves, including Khouma Babacar’s overhead kick, but in stoppages Simeone finally got a deserved equaliser from close range.
