Siena President Massimo Mezzaroma has released a statement in reaction to the latest claims about former Coach Antonio Conte in the betting scandal.

Ex-Siena midfielder Filippo Carobbio’s unproven allegations have been quoted in a variety of publications and websites in Italy on Friday.

He suggested Conte knew of attempts to fix two matches in Serie B last season – the 2-2 draw with Novara and a 1-0 defeat at Albinoleffe.

“From Carobbio’s published testimony, there does not appear to be any presumed responsibility of AC Siena in these events, which in any case we will be happy to evaluate in the opportune arenas, establishing the truth of what happened and any eventual guilty parties,” read a statement from President Mezzaroma.

“Knowing the people cited in the testimony, I consider the scenario depicted to be entirely implausible, especially after discussing it with them and hearing them talk about these as completely false hypotheses.

“I also remember the maniacal determination of the squad last season, including the coaching staff, to always achieve a victory in every game. Do not forget they had to earn a consistent bonus for topping the table.

“We continue to put our absolute faith in the sporting justice system and the work they are doing.”
