Siena managed a respectable 14th place finish on their top-flight return, but the cost of that success was the loss of Coach Giuseppe Sannino to Palermo.
The Robur's search for Sannino's replacement has seen both Serse Cosmi and Devis Mangia mentioned in dispatches, but Sky Sport Italia now claim that whilst Cosmi remains the favourite, the Tuscan club have made an effort to approach Del Neri.
Although the 61-year-old has been out of work for a year since being sacked by Juventus, he has a history of impressive results with smaller clubs and would perhaps be a safer choice than the fiery Cosmi or the inexperienced Mangia.
Del Neri took Sampdoria to Champions League qualification two seasons ago, achieved two mid-table finishes with Atalanta and masterminded the 'Chievo Miracle' back in 2002, leading the Veronese minnows to a fifth place finish in their first ever Serie A campaign.
