Sesto San Giovanni’s Mayor Roberto Di Stefano confirms he already has a plan to build a new stadium for Milan and Inter outside the city of Milano ‘but the two clubs must be convinced.’

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported this morning that Milan and Inter were considering moving outside Milan in search of an area for their new stadium despite a project to build a new home for the teams in the area of San Siro that had been approved in December.

Milan’s Mayor Beppe Sala answered the report by publishing a document signed by representatives of Inter and Milan, which appears to confirm the commitment to the old project. Sala’s counterpart of Sesto San Giovanni is now claiming that there is an alternative project.

Milano’s Mayor insists project for Milan and Inter’s new stadium goes ahead

“In the year where Sesto San Giovanni will become the European city of sports, having the temple of football here would be outstanding,” he told Gazzettino Metropolitano.

“It would be the best gift for the city. We are working, but it’s not only up to us. Three parties are needed to make this dream come true. The city council and we’ve already given the green light, then the owners of the area and the clubs. If the owners agree, only the clubs are left.

“They [Milan and Inter] must convince themselves to cross the Milan borders in a logic of metropolitan city. Milan are taking giants steps toward this international logic and if the same happened with the stadium, the solution would be ready. It takes just 13 minutes by tube from Sesto Rondò to the Dome of Milan and 15 to get to Linate Airport.”

However, the project approved by Inter, Milan and Milan’s City council to build a new stadium in the area of San Siro is apparently still valid, but a new stadium for Milan and Inter won’t be ready before 2027.
