Nikola Vlasic scored with a ferocious strike from outside the box, proving enough for Torino to damage Verona’s Serie A safety hopes, even though they also wasted numerous chances.

The pressure was back on Hellas after Spezia beat Milan, pushing them back into the bottom three. Ajdin Hrustic, Thomas Henry and Kevin Lasagna were on the treatment table, while Toro missed Aleksei Miranchuk and Nemanja Radonjic on Ivan Juric’s return to the Bentegodi. Perr Schuurs was only fit for the bench.

Adrien Tameze had an early double chance, the first charged down and the second parried by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, while Mergim Vojvoda failed to make the most of a Yann Karamoh roll across to the back post. Giangiacomo Magnani was forced off with an injury.

Toro opened the scoring with a Nikola Vlasic left-foot rocket into the top corner from just outside the D, a ferocious finish that gave Lorenzo Montipò no chance.

Cyril Ngonge and Samuele Ricci had attempts on target from distance, but Antonio Sanabria should’ve made it 2-0 in first-half stoppages when blasting over from six yards.

Ricci flashed a dangerous ball across the face of goal and Vojvoda just failed to get there for the tap-in, while Milan Djuric’s grazed header skimmed the far post.

Verona wasted a huge opportunity to equalise just shy of the hour mark, as first Wilfried Singo made the crucial tackle on Ngonge going clear on goal, then Darko Lazovic fired the rebound onto the side-netting. Moments later, Ondrej Duda pulled up with a suspected thigh strain.

Joan Cabral stung Milinkovic-Savic’s gloves with a powerful left-foot strike from distance, then Ricci did so well to control a long ball and get away from defenders only to shave a coat of paint off the upright with the dinked finish.

It was the first of three big wasted Torino chances in the space of five minutes, as then Singo’s angled drive was beaten away at the near post, before Singo again turned over from six yards.

Montipò got his boot to a Pietro Pellegri angled drive, but Verona went close to an equaliser when Jayden Braaf fired over after dribbling away from Alessandro Buongiorno on the counter.
