Prandelli announced several months ago that in the months running up to the European Championships in Ukraine and Poland that he intended to hold several low-key training sessions with prospective members of the Italian national team.

Targeting two or three meet-ups in the spare weeks of the fixture list, Prandelli was keen to spend each get-together with a different nucleus of players, for instance working with the defenders on one occasion, the midfielders on another, and so on.
However, the Lega Calcio has rejected the Commissario Tecnico’s request to timetable these sessions, voting against the idea today.
“We decided unanimously not to grant the request of the Coach and the Italian FA (FIGC) to release the players for these sessions,” confirmed Serie A’s President Maurizio Beretta.
“Even with the utmost attention to the needs of the country, with just a few weeks to go until the end of the season and with a calendar that is so complex, it was not possible.”
