Torino gave Duvan Zapata his debut, but had to wait until a moment of pure magic from Nemanja Radonjic to finally break down a rugged Genoa.
The Granata were still smarting after one point from two rounds and lost Antonio Sanabria and Koffi Djidji to injury, so deadline day signing Duvan Zapata made his debut from the start. Junior Messias, Ridgeciano Haps and Alessandro Vogliacco were out for Genoa, who were fresh from a surprise 1-0 win away to Lazio.
An early Duvan Zapata header was plucked out of the air and Rade Dragusin got just enough on another cross to take it away from the Colombian.
Karol Linetty fired over from distance and Duvan Zapata skimmed the far post, even if he might’ve been narrowly offside.
Toro lost Nikola Vlasic to injury, while Samuele Ricci’s snapshot was smothered and Caleb Ekuban blasted off target from a long way out.
Vanja Milinkovic-Savic rushed out to clear from Albert Gudmundsson, while Pietro Pellegri had two promising headers in the closing stages, but couldn’t keep either of them on target.
Genoa threatened to snatch all three points in stoppages, as debutant Kutlu forced Milinkovic-Savic to parry with his legs.
However, a dull game was lit up by a moment of sheer magic in stoppages. Radonjic gathered down the left, cut inside to skin Silvan Hefti and then blasted it into the roof of the net from the tightest of angles with his right boot.
Torino 1-0 Genoa
