Serie A League chief Maurizio Beretta has admitted that some top-flight games may one day be staged abroad.

"It isn't an immediate objective, but we need to look at innovative projects which will help add value to Italian football," he stated.

"Therefore it is a possibility that will have to be considered, that and a number of other ideas that we are working on."

The project of taking a small number of domestic games overseas is one based on the American model which has seen basketball and American football ties played outside of the USA.

"It would obviously be necessary to arrange the fixtures, get the clubs and host countries on board," continued Beretta.

Should the idea be approved, then the Far East is already being considered as a possible destination for Serie A football.

"It's not a coincidence that the Italian Super Cup will return to China," continued the official.

"There is a demand for Italian football over there, given that they admire it on a sporting and economical level."
