The final day of the Serie A season is going to be vital for the futures of several clubs, with Genoa, Fiorentina and Empoli all at risk of relegation.

Udinese, who are on 40 points, are already safe due to their better head-to-head record against the other teams, as are Bologna  – courtesy of their 3-3 draw with Lazio on Monday.

Permutations as it stands

Genoa 37 points

Play away to Fiorentina

Can stay up if:

They get a better result than Empoli

Permutations as it stands

Genoa 37 points

Play away to Fiorentina

Can stay up if:

They get a better result than Empoli

OR

They win (except if they finish level with Udinese and Fiorentina, in which case they must win by two clear goals)

Empoli 38 points

Play away to Inter

Can stay up if:

They win

OR

Match (or better) Genoa’s result

Fiorentina 40 points

Play at home against Genoa

Can stay up if:

They avoid defeat

OR

They lose and Empoli don’t win

OR

If they lose by one goal, but only if Udinese lose too

The head-to-head record

Together on 38 points, Empoli-Genoa

Empoli would go down due to their inferior head-to-head record

Together on 40 points, Genoa-Fiorentina

Fiorentina go down for inferior head-to-head record

Together on 40 points, Genoa-Fiorentina-Udinese

They’d have five points each in the mini-League, so this would go down to goal difference.  Udinese are ahead of the other two, so they are safe. In the event Udinese lose to Cagliari and Empoli beat Inter, Genoa need to win by two clear goals against Fiorentina to stay up and relegate the Viola.
