This evening’s videoconference meeting was decisive, involving Spadafora, the Lega Serie A, Players’ Association, FIGC and Association of Italian Sports Medics.

Serie A shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the last game played on March 9.

There are still four outstanding matches from Week 25 that were postponed and should be the first on the calendar for the resumption on June 13.

The games are AtalantaSassuolo, InterSampdoria, Torino-Parma and VeronaCagliari.

The rest of the teams can then start up again with Week 27 fixtures from June 20.

Before that can happen, Spadafora needs PM Conte to sign a special decree giving an exception to the previous decree, which banned professional sporting events until June 14.

The CTS (technical scientific committee) approved the medical protocol for matches today, which is very similar to the one that allowed teams to resume contact training.

This includes the proviso that if one member of the squad or staff tests positive for COVID-19, then the entire Team Group must remain isolated for 14 days in their training ground.

The individual who tests positive will be quarantined.

The clubs and medics have argued the isolation period for the whole group should be seven days, but it is hoped that can be negotiated down as the overall pandemic curve continues to fall.

There are now under 48,000 active positive cases of coronavirus in Italy, while most regions have under 10 new cases per day.
