Italy was the first European nation to lock down its sporting events after a spike in positive test results, people in intensive care and deaths.

As of Friday evening, there had been 47,021 positive tests, including 4,032 who had died, 19,185 in isolation, 16,020 in hospital and 2,655 in intensive care.

Those figures shot up again today and experts warn we have not yet reached the peak, despite restrictive measures on social distancing.

There were another 793 deaths in the Peninsula, the biggest single-day increase so far, taking the total in Italy to 4,825.

There are also 2,857 in intensive care out of the 17,708 in hospital and the total currently suffering from the Coronavirus stands at 42,681.

The plan had been for Serie A to return on May 2 and play to June 30, but that is seeming increasingly unrealistic.

According to La Repubblica, the plan being discussed between Serie A Presidents is to remain locked down until June, then play until July 30.

This could prove extremely complicated, because players whose contracts expire on June 30 will end up playing on for what is no longer their club.

Another summit is planned with the aid of the Lega Serie A and FIGC on Tuesday.
