Gabriel Strefezza and Lorenzo Colombo completed the turnaround from an early Ciro Immobile strike, as Lecce stunned Lazio.

The Aquile began 2023 with Luis Alberto struggling with a knee issue, while the hosts missed Kastriot Dermaku after ending 2022 with seven points from three games.

Wladimiro Falcone flew to fingertip a Casale header out from under the bar in the opening minutes, then Ciro Immobile broke the deadlock by springing the offside trap on Casale’s through ball to sweep an angled drive into the far bottom corner. It was his 189th Serie A goal, putting him in the top nine all-time scorers.

Immobile then volleyed over from a dinked Sergej Milinkovic-Savic assist, though he had the time to control it and turn.

Lecce got back on level terms as their high press paid off, as though Provedel got his gloves to a Federico Di Francesco rising strike at the near post, he could do nothing on Gabriel Strefezza’s follow-up.

The Salentini were growing in intensity as the game wore on and turned it around with a well-worked goal, as Hjulmand floated a ball over the top for Di Francesco’s fantastic volleyed assist from the by-line, allowing Lorenzo Colombo to tap in from four yards.

Joan Gonzalez blasted over and Ceesay was caught offside, as Lecce never seemed in danger of losing their lead.

Lecce 2-1 Lazio

  1. Is anyone else surprised that Roberto Mancini isn’t looking at strefezza. He was great in serie b last season and is now doing well for Lecce in Serie A.
