Lazio had taken a 2-0 lead including the debut Taty Castellanos goal only to see Atalanta equalise, but Matias Vecino’s half-volley secured a precious 3-2 victory.

The Biancocelesti won away to Celtic in the Champions League midweek, but in Serie A had just seven points from as many games and were hovering above the relegation zone. Ciro Immobile was out of action with a muscular problem, while La Dea missed Rafael Toloi and El Bilal Toure, but had Gianluca Scamacca back in the starting XI.

It was Charles De Ketelaere who opened the scoring, but in the wrong net, as the trademark in-swinging Luis Alberto corner kick went past everyone and bounced off his stomach into the net.

The second was a well-worked move, as Mattia Zaccagni spread the play down the right for Felipe Anderson, who whipped a ball across the face of play for Taty Castellanos to sweep in his debut Serie A goal at the back post.

It was nearly 3-0, a Luis Alberto free kick deflected off the wall and Juan Musso making himself big to prevent the Nicolò Casale tap-in.

Mateo Guendouzi then rattled the crossbar with a long-range strike, as Atalanta finally got into the game with a Mario Pasalic header off target at the back post when he really should’ve done better.

Ederson did make it count with his free header on a Matteo Ruggeri cross from six yards, as he managed to avoid the Lazio marking.

Nicolò Rovella threw himself in the path of a Davide Zappacosta strike and Juan Musso struggled to deal with another in-swinging Luis Alberto corner.

Teun Koopmeiners came on for the restart and De Ketelaere shrugged off two defenders to cut inside from the right and force a great one-handed save from Ivan Provedel.

Pedro had the ball in the net after a run from midfield, but he was flagged offside.

Instead, Atalanta completed the comeback from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 when Sead Kolasinac was allowed a free header, the Ruggeri corner taken short for a Koopmeiners cross. It was the defender’s first Serie A goal.

Daichi Kamada nodded a Pedro cross straight at Musso, while Isaksen curled a free kick over the bar before Lazio restored their advantage.

A ball was floated over the top, Castellanos knocked it down and Matias Vecino let it bounce before thumping in the volley from nine yards.

Maurizio Sarri saw red for dissent after Marten de Roon got a Vecino shoulder in the face, then Giorgio Scalvini nodded a corner wide, while Luis Muriel’s scuffed finish was captured by Provedel.
