Sebastian Frey has praised the work of Genoa President Enrico Preziosi, as well as discussing how to improve Italian football.

The French shot-stopper moved to the Grifone in 2011 and has commended the work done by the team's owner, but issued a word of warning to the people in charge at the top of the national game.

“Coming to Genoa was a lifestyle choice,” he told Calciatori. “My children live in Forte dei Marmi, so I wanted to be near them, but I also came here because I really believe in President Preziosi.

“The problem with football in Italy is what revolves around it,” he said. “There are too many controversies, too many bad episodes – inside and outside the stadiums.

“We also have to think about the economic crisis, which has removed a lot of fans from watching games on a Sunday.”

He then went on to comment on his career in Serie A, having played on the peninsula since 1998.

“All the teams I've played for have great meaning to me. With Inter I played with some great champions.

“At Verona I proved that I could play in this League and could grow as a player. In Parma I had the opportunity to work with a great club that maintains stability – which is rare in football.

Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”10″>“Fiorentina were fundamental for my breakthrough. I became a good player through my experience in the Champions League with them and the wonderful group of players we had there.”
