Most Serie A clubs should resume training next week, but the Government has still not decided whether to allow the season to continue amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The regional assemblies over-ruled guidelines that differentiated between team and individual sports when it came to working in a training centre, as these structures allow clubs to guarantee social distancing far better than running in a local park.

Several regions are opening up training over the next few days, including Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Campania and Sardinia, with others likely to follow.

However, La Repubblica and La Gazzetta dello Sport warn the completion of the Serie A season is by no means a certainty, even after the daily death toll fell to 192, the lowest figure since March 14.

A decisive moment should be on Wednesday, when Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte meets with the technical committee and Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora to discuss the options.

France’s Ligue 1 is the only major league to have called off its season early, along with Belgium and the Netherlands, whereas all the others have drawn up plans to resume games at the end of May or into June.

As for Serie A, if they are to start up again, the dates would be from June 14 or at most 21.

If it’s June 21, then the Coppa Italia semi-finals would either be scrapped or postponed until next season.

The Europa League spot that should’ve gone to the Coppa Italia winners would instead be handed to a team in the top seven of Serie A.

UEFA have set a deadline of May 25 to receive specific details of how European qualifying spots will be assigned.
