“My idea of perfect football is a mix between what Sarri and Allegri ask of their players. I don’t think it’s going to be easy to put into practice, though,” Semplici told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We are just wandering through the top spots in the table, we know it won’t last, but we have to take advantage of it to increase our self-belief.

“SPAL have the second smallest budget in Serie A this season, but we made some very specific and targeted transfer moves, as well as believing in a group of lads that deserved to avoid relegation last term.

“Our objective is to stay in Serie A for a long time, much like Chievo, and maybe one day put ourselves right behind the biggest clubs.”

Semplici worked in the Fiorentina youth academy and saw the likes of Federico Chiesa grow up.

“Everyone knows I wanted Chiesa at SPAL years ago, as it was evident to me that he had extraordinary capabilities.”

SPAL have developed talents of their own and Semplici is well aware he can’t keep Manuel Lazzari after earning the first Italy cap.

“I’ve given up hope on Lazzari. Many clubs wanted him over the summer, but now he’s even playing for Italy… I am preparing to say my goodbyes, because I sincerely doubt he’ll still be with us in June.”
