“Given their last few results, I expect a very difficult game with Chievo tomorrow,“ the tactician revealed in his pre-match Press conference.
“They are a robust side, with some good players. They have nothing to play for except pride, which means we must respect them. We will need to be focused and determined to come home with all three points.
“The points penalty they had at the start of the season hurt them, then with their change of Coach they stepped it up a level, but by then they were already in the relegation fight.
“In a one-off game, they can hurt anyone. We will give them maximum respect, as in Serie A there is never an easy match.
“We want to get as many points as possible and end this extraordinary season in the best way. We will go to Verona with a desire to bring home the points that will cement our place in next year’s championship.”
The Spallini are currently in 13th place, one point behind Fiorentina and two adrift of Sassuolo in tenth, so a win could see them leapfrog their more illustrious rivals.
“Overtaking Fiorentina would be nice, but the real satisfaction for us would be to avoid relegation for the second year in a row, as nobody gave us a chance at the start of the season.
“For us, finishing in the top half of the table would be like winning two championships. It will be very difficult, but first we are focused on earning the point that makes us mathematically safe.”
