Leonardo Semplici again refused to commit his future to SPAL after securing their Serie A status with a 4-0 win over Chievo.

“We achieved something historic and it was by no means to be taken for granted that we’d remain in the top flight for a third year running,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I must thank the club and the President, as we’ve had an extraordinary journey together from Serie C to currently 10th place in Serie A.

“We achieved something historic and it was by no means to be taken for granted that we’d remain in the top flight for a third year running,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I must thank the club and the President, as we’ve had an extraordinary journey together from Serie C to currently 10th place in Serie A.

“We learned from all our experiences and were never in the relegation zone this term.”

However, while SPAL President Walter Mattioli assured Semplici would be on the bench next season, the Coach himself was not so sure.

“We’ll see. The main thing is that we achieved our objective and that went beyond expectations. At the end of the season, I’ll get together with the club and see if we have the same ideas to go forward.

“I want to always improve myself and that means being ambitious, which I hope SPAL will be too.”
