“I hope to see a SPAL side that believes in its own capabilities more, that plays with character and determination,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We must avoid the mistakes shown against Sampdoria. I believe if we play with belief and grit, we can trouble any opponent, even one with such a different history and budget as Inter.”

When these sides met in October, Mauro Icardi’s brace proved decisive around an Alberto Paloschi temporary equaliser, but Mirko Antenucci missed a penalty.

“If you let Inter play, then they pin you back, but we watched back the recording of our game against them earlier this season and in terms of intensity and style, I think that was our best performance. We’ll try to repeat that type of football.”

Manuel Lazzari is still out injured, joined by Alessandro Murgia and suspended defender Thiago Cionek.

“We have several alternatives, including Lorenzo Dickmann and Mattia Valoti. We’re evaluating a few things.”

The Nerazzurri are potentially fatigued from Thursday’s 0-0 Europa League draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, especially as Radja Nainggolan, Mauro Icardi and suspended Matias Vecino are out of action.

Ivan Perisic and Keita Balde Diao are available, albeit not 100 per cent fit.

Several clubs have complained in recent weeks about their treatment at the hands of referees and VAR, but Semplici poured cold water on these flames.

“There were some incidents that went against us, but for example with Sassuolo they went in our favour, so we mustn’t create alibis that only serve to make the players tense. I don’t believe in a conspiracy against SPAL.”

SPAL squad for Inter: Fulignati, Gomis, Poluzzi, Viviano; Bonifazi, Felipe, Regini, Simic, Vicari; Costa, Dickmann, Fares, Kurtic, Missiroli, Schiattarella, Valdifiori, Valoti; Antenucci, Floccari, Jankovic, Paloschi, Petagna
