There were doubts over the Bayern Munich midfielder, who had been struggling with an ankle problem.

I am 100 per cent fit and am very much looking forward to this classic game. I have trained twice and feel good. I am completely concentrated on this game,” he said in a Press conference.

“Italy's midfielders are all good on the ball, so you must get among them. We know what type of football they play and are prepared for it.

“There are several players I admire in the Italy team. I like the way Andrea Pirlo plays, what he's done at this tournament is quite fantastic. You can stop him but he is the one player I like the best.

“It's important to always improve and to have a philosophy and follow it. We've been on an upward curve for a while. We don't have a title yet, but hopefully that will come. There's a really healthy mixture of players here, and it's very relaxed but still very focused on the football.

“I think we have got a lot of quality and are tactically strong, physically strong. I am very positive about the semi-final. For me, I've played a lot of games, but it's still a highlight in a long season.”
