Bayer Leverkusen Coach Roger Schmidt warns Roma are “lethal on the break” ahead of tomorrow’s match.

The Giallorossi travel to the BayArena in the Champions League, and are under pressure after a surprise defeat to BATE Borisov.

“We have to have clear ideas tomorrow,” Schmidt said in his pre-match Press conference.

“We also know that Roma are under pressure after their defeat against Borisov. They’ve got pace up-front, and if they get into the lead they’re lethal on the break.

“They’re a great team in transitions, Roma have grown in confidence. It will be important to press our opponents, to immediately pressure the man on the ball.

“We’re playing good football, but we have to be more solid than in the past few matches.

“We won’t lose our trust or sense of calm. The way we play makes us dangerous in the Champions League.”

Leverkusen knocked out Roma’s city rivals Lazio in the qualifying round, progressing comfortably 3-1 on aggregate, but Schmidt doesn’t expect that to have a bearing tomorrow.

“Both matches against Lazio were difficult. It was important for us to get through that tie against a top team.

“We’ve watched Roma, and we know they have great qualities. At the end of the season we’ll see who is stronger between Roma and Lazio.

“We’ve got three points after two matches in the group, and that’s fine, but the next two rounds will give us a clearer picture of who will go through.”
